Clubs in the South |
| The South
Region has over 100+
registered cycling clubs which can vary in outlook and
the activities undertaken, but what they offer is a wealth
of experience of riding information and support.
Joining a local cycling club is the first step to learning
about the sport and a gateway to competitive cycling. When
searching for a club, and if you are wanting to participate
in competitive cycling, the club you chose must be registered
with British Cycling.
A new competitor or social rider can 'buy into' the local
knowledge of a club, as members will know the best routes,
offer club rides, and be a mine of information about races
in the area. The club may also organise events.
In addition, clubs will often be affiliated to cycling organisations
and competitions which may save you money.
Cycling Clubs and Go-Ride
Go-Ride is British Cycling's Club Development Programme aimed
at improving both young riders and clubs. It focuses on clubs/volunteers
and young members – improving coaching standards and
increasing the number of young riders with access to coaching
activities.
For more details about Go-Ride and accredited
clubs, please refer to our Development
- Go-Ride page.

Portsmouth School of Cycle Racing
One organisation that has taken an active
role in developing younger riders is Portsmouth
School of Cycle Racing which is run by Guy Watson (BC
Level 2 coach).
|
Guy has qualified as a British
Cycling Coach to ensure the delivery of his coaching was up-to-date,
and addressed important issues, such as Child Protection and
Safety.
A proven format has been established where he can run youth
and senior training sessions in a controlled and safe manner,
with a one hour road bike session followed by a one hour track
bike session - including motor pacing. |

|
These sessions
have always genuinely been for all cyclists who want to improve
- whatever the ability level. At any one time Portsmouth
School of Cycle Racing has had up to 10 Talent Team riders
at sessions and has been proud to be involved with the development
of Olympic Development riders Dani King and Kate Calvert as
well as talents such as Dave Sinclair, Sam Redding, Sam Pattrick
and the Dibben Brothers. |
